ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY

The Moon

To animate the phases of the moon, click on the image. Note that is may take some time to download the image file, since it is about 1/2 Mbyte. These pictures of the moon were taken with my Olympus C-2100UZ with a 1.7x teleconverter, yielding a magnification of 17x. They were taken over the course of a few months, since it was not always possible to see the moon due to clouds. This probably accounts for the slight shifts in the moon's orientation.

This picture was taken of the lunar eclipse on Aug. 28, 2007. Better prepared this time, I got some nice shots. Click on the image to see the animation.

Other Planets

Here's are some pictures I took with my Orion 5" reflector telescope. They are composite images made by "stacking" many individual images with software like Registax to improve image quality.

In two consecutive years, unusually bright comets visited the solar system. These are pictures I took myself using nothing but a Pentax MX camera, a tripod, and some very fast film. Click on an image for more information.
