YUMING
Matsutoya Yumi
Matsutoya Yumi, or Yuming as she is called, is my favorite Japanese pop singer.
She releases a new album every winter around the end of November and has been
popular for over 20 years. Someday I hope to see one of her concerts.
Her concert video "Into the Dancing Sun" is well worth the Y7500 price.
(Remember that CDs in Japan typically sell for Y3000.)
My concert dream was realized in May 1997 when I was able to attend Yuming's
Strolling Cowgirl concert at Yoyogi Taiyukan (the Olympic Gymnasium). It was
great! Unfortunately, cameras and video were not allowed in the concert.
During a recent trip to Tokyo, a friend of mine showed me Yuming's home in
Setagaya. Needless to say, it was quite opulent, although from the street it
looked rather modest.
